About Dolphinwatch

Geoff & Susanne Magee pioneered dolphin watching in the Shannon Estuary in 1992 when they founded Dolphinwatch. Geoff is a qualified Captain with many years experience fishing commercially and working in eco-marine tourism. Susanne worked on fishing boats, ran a local sailing school and has lived by the sea all her life. Both Susanne and Geoff are passionate about the dolphins and their habitat.




Dolphinwatch is dedicated to the conservation of the Shannon dolphins and the protection of their eco-habitat.

Carrigaholt village, which lies on the southern side of the Loop Head Peninsula, was once of huge strategic importance with its position at the Mouth of the Shannon. The castle, or tower house, was built by the McMahons in 1480 and the scene of many brutal battles for supremacy. In more modern times, Carrigaholt was the market town for the Peninsula and remains one of the most beautiful and peaceful villages in Clare, overlooking the majestic Shannon.
